CHEAP: Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 is even better value with £100 off

Xiaomi’s arrival to the UK market wasn’t the slickly-executed affair you’d expect from a company of its stature, but a few months on, that doesn’t really matter. Brits can now get Xiaomi’s awesome tech at its rival-beating prices. And now its phones and gadgets are improbably even cheaper, thanks to Xiaomi’s Mi Fan Festival. Headlining this festival is the Pocophone F1. Almost universally liked by reviewers (including our very own Abhimanyu Ghoshal), this handset packs exceptional specs for its price, and is arguably the best value handset money can buy right now. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 845 platform…

5 tips on how to work full-time and not go crazy

There’s one important life skill they don’t teach you at uni. When I was a student, fitting sleep, social life, and working out into my five-classes-a-week schedule was a breeze. Fast-forward a couple of years and here I am working full-time and barely squeezing a shower into my work week routine. University prepared me for a work environment where I have total freedom to plan my day as I please. Nine-to-five office life, on the other hand? Not so much. Feeling overwhelmed, I decided to turn to TQ community for help and ask some of the entrepreneurs who work from…

Going Serverless With Cloudflare Workers

Going Serverless With Cloudflare WorkersGoing Serverless With Cloudflare Workers

2019-04-04T15:00:34+02:002019-04-04T22:35:06+00:00(This is a sponsored article.) It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a website in pursuit of success must be in want of speed. And so, it goes serverless.

At its core, serverless is a strategy for a website’s architecture, based on deploying static files (the good old HTML, CSS and image files) on cloud-based hosting, and augmenting the website’s capabilities by accessing cloud-based, charge-per-use dynamic functionality. There is nothing mystical or mysterious about serverless: its end result is simply a website or application.

In spite of its name, “serverless” doesn’t mean “without a server”. It simply means “without my own server”. This means that my site is still hosted on some server, but by offloading this responsibility to the cloud services provider, I can devote all my energies to developing my own product (the websit..

A cryptocurrency debunker’s quixotic quest to save endangered marmots with an emoji

Marmots. If you’re unfamiliar with this creature, marmots are kinda like squirrels, but the size of a house-cat. In Canada, they’re heavily endangered, and one cryptocurrency anti-influencer is hellbent on raising awareness with an official marmot emoji. Preston Byrne is a lawyer and self-professed blockchain nerd. On Twitter, you’ll often find him subverting influencer-centric cryptocurrency discussion with talk of marmots. If it helps, the groundhog (from Groundhog Day) is technically a marmot. There’s also an (imaginary) marmot-associated cryptocorrency, Marmotcoin. Its (sadly theoretical) supply-limit is pegged to the population of marmots (unlike Bitcoin‘s fixed 21-million supply), and one marmot is always equivalent to one Marmotcoin. This…

WhatsApp says its fake news tip line is just for research

Earlier this week, WhatsApp announced that it’s launching a tip line in India to verify messages during the election. But as it turns out, the new service is not exactly a hotline for debunking fake news – but rather a tool for researching misleading information shared on the platform. As spotted by BuzzFeed News, an FAQ on Pronto’s – WhatsApp‘s partner for this project – website suggests it’s just meant for research purposes. According to the FAQ, this the project aims to study the misinformation phenomenon at scale during the Indian election: The Checkpoint tipline is primarily used to gather data…

Moshi’s stellar $50 earphones deliver surprisingly detailed sound over USB-C

I’m not remotely a fan of phones ditching the headphone jack, but these are the sad times we live in. One of my biggest gripes with that decision is that the range of USB-C accessories isn’t great, particularly in the field of audio gear. But I’m glad that Moshi’s gotten into the game with its new Mythro C earphones. They draw power from your phone to support the inbuilt digital-to-analog converter (DAC) chip to deliver better quality audio than other similarly priced buds, and I’m happy to report that they’re pretty darn good. If you’ve been fiddling with a dongle…
